Stress Less: 5 Tips For Your Corporate Event

Posted on: May 31st, 2016 by Showroom on Hubbard No Comments

With so many factors to consider when planning a corporate event, the process can become quite stressful. Here are five tips to consider in order to alleviate the stress and help your event run smoothly!

1. Know Your Goal

This should be the first step when planning a corporate event. Whether you’re looking to launch a product, educate those in your field, or thank your employees, once you know your event’s objective, all of the other details can fall into place.

2. Market Your Event

Send an email blast, create buzz on social media, put up flyers, alert the media, use word of mouth, shout it from the rooftops! No matter how you go about it, make sure your target audience knows your event is coming up. Also, if you’ve sent an email invitation, a good rule of thumb is to send a second email about the event to all invitees who haven’t responded approximately two weeks before. Then send another email to the registered attendees the week of. These emails act as gentle reminders without being overbearing.

3. Delegate Responsibilities

Whether you need employees to volunteer to check in guests, help with food service, or take photos, make sure you have all your bases covered.

4. Schedule Breaks

Give attendees the time to relax between speakers or group sessions. Whether it’s to have time to interact with other participants or just a short breather, your guests will appreciate some time to decompress before moving on to the next activity.

5. Follow Up

Remember to reach out to your guests after the event to thank them for attending. Also, feel free to share any slides or other information presented, to ask for feedback, or to offer an exclusive promotion.

Bridal Showers: A Quick and Painless History Lesson

Posted on: May 16th, 2016 by Showroom on Hubbard 1 Comment

As we roll into wedding season, we thought it would be interesting to take a look at the history and evolution of wedding traditions. We have become so accustomed to some traditions that we no longer even question how they began or why they exist, so we wanted to get to the bottom of these. First up, we’ll be diving into bridal showers, one of the most charming, pre-wedding festivities, and the journey they’ve taken to become the bridal showers we know today.

Legend has it that bridal showers date back to 16th century Holland. According to the tale, a young, upper-class woman fell in love with a man of poor status. The woman’s father did not approve of the marriage and instead wanted her to marry a wealthy pig farmer. However, as any good love story goes, the woman would not give up her heart’s desire, even when her father said her dowry would be withheld. The woman’s friends were so touched by her devotion to the young man, that they each contributed a gift, creating an even better dowry than her father could have given her.

In the United States during the Victorian Era, bridal shower gifts were placed inside an inverted parasol. The gifts were then showered over the bride, hence the term “shower.” The gifts, along with the celebratory nature of the party, set the foundations for the bridal showers we continue to have.

Today’s bridal showers have come a long way. They can range from quiet celebrations in a friend’s home to lavish catered affairs with the ever-more-popular invitation of both sexes. Though we no longer literally shower the bride with gifts or need to depend on our fathers’ dowries, the sentiment behind this event is the same as it’s always been—celebrating love and the upcoming nuptials.

Last month, we teamed up with one of our catering partners, Amazing Edibles, to host an open house event. Our guests were spoiled with their delectable creations, including truffle popcorn, bacon wrapped dates with manchego cheese, and caramel budino with sea salt. These delicious bites almost made us want to jump ship and join the Amazing Edibles team, just so we could eat their food daily.

Fruit and Cheese Plate

We arranged The Showroom with a cocktail party in mind, allowing guests to mingle around freely in the airy space. We included extra high boys, the perfect spot to set drinks upon, along with two-tops and our walnut slab table, which provided other options for those who preferred to sit and chat with friends. Plus, the hanging live edge slabs made the ideal backdrop for Amazing Edible’s buffet set-up.

We had a blast holdling a raffle, as well! We gave away one of our hickory side tables, while Amazing Edibles offered a free cooking class to a lucky guest.

Special thanks to one of our photography partners, Angie Garbot of Angela Garbot Photography, for being there to capture all of the above photos. All in all, it was great to see some familiar faces and have the opportunity to meet some new ones!
